Chatham-Kent Council will hold its first electronic council meeting Monday, March 23 at 5:45 p.m. following the Ontario Legislature’s passage of the ‘The Municipal Emergency Act, 2020’ allowing electronic meetings.
The purpose of that meeting is to pass an amending procedural bylaw to permit council to hold an electronic council meeting.
Council will hold its regular meeting at 6 p.m.
If the public is interested in having a deputation on any item (including planning items) or questions concerning deputations they are urged to contact the municipality at ckclerk@chatham-kent.ca or call the clerk’s office at 519-360-1998 for a PIN number by which they can participate.
The meeting will be livestreamed at https://www.facebook.com/yourtvck/ and YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/channel/
It will also be located on the municipality’s Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/MunicCK/ where it can be viewed at any time.
The March 23 Council agenda is at https://www.chatham-kent.ca/local-government/council/council-meetings.
Members of the media are encouraged to contact the mayor and councillors on their municipal cell phone numbers following the meeting. The contact list can be found at https://www.chatham-kent.ca/local-government/council
Chatham-Kent Clerk Judy Smith said the extremely short time between the province’s approval and the council meeting date has proved a challenge.
“We hope to refine the process for future meetings but given the concerns regarding COVID-19 and the limited time frame we have to deal with the issue, it’s the best we can do right now,” she said.
