With the current COVID-19 pandemic and the implementation of further visitor restrictions to ensure the health and safety of patients and staff, the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance (CKHA) is introducing a new way to bring families together virtually.
CKHA officials say a donation has been made to CKHA of tablets which are set-up with videoconferencing tools such as FaceTime, Skype, etc.
There will be one to two tablets available on specific units for staff and patients to use to connect with family members who are unable to visit the hospital.
“With the strict visitor policy in place, we understand our patients and loved ones still need to connect,” stated Lori Marshall, president and CEO, in a media release.
“With this generous donation and through this technology, our patients will be able to stay in touch with their loved ones during this unprecedented time and our staff be able to connect with patients’ caregivers to conduct family meetings virtually.”
CKHA officials say these tablets will be available to sign out for patient use.
Staff will be available to help with setup and for those unfamiliar with using a tablet, guiding resources are available to further assist them.
This initiative provides patients the ability to stay connected with their families and friends for the much needed support they receive from them during their health care journey, CKHA officials say.
