George Fletcher

George Wilson Fletcher passed away peacefully at the Chatham Kent Health Alliance on March 11th, 2020.

In his 91st year. Born on January 10th, 1930 in Newbury, Ontario, to the late Bruce and Jessie Fletcher of Glencoe. Beloved husband of Sophie Rose Ann and the late Leona Ruth (1986). Loving father of Carol (Ken) Annett, Virginia (Al) Holton, Lance (Janice) Fletcher, Wade (late Angie 2019) Fletcher, and Perry (Annamari) Fletcher. Loving stepfather of Deb (Dave) Rice and Kelly (Pierre) Roy. Dear grandfather of fifteen and great grandfather of thirteen. Predeceased by infant son, Neil Duncan (1964) and stepson Garry Hillman. George embraced all lovingly as his family. Predeceased by his sister Edna Gould and brothers Gilbert and Duncan. He was the end of a generation. George will also be fondly remembered by several nieces and nephews and long-time friends.

George was a dedicated employee of the Canadian National Railroad for 40 years. At the age of 60, he retired and took his pension. For the next years he explored his many interests and joys, including travelling with Sophie to many places ~ from the Amazon to Alaska. Throughout his life he spent time as a carpenter, hobby and horse farmer, gardener, and bird enthusiast. He volunteered for the Salvation Army Christmas Kettle Drive and Meals on Wheels. George was an exceptional man, strong in character with always a kind greeting and smile. His was a life well lived and he was well loved.

A private family service will be held at a later date with Captain Steve Holland officiating. Arrangements entrusted to the Alexander & Houle Funeral Home, 245 Wellington West, Chatham, 519-352-2710.
