Family and friends of the late Ken Houston have formed a committee, raised funds and are now ready to award local students that spent their formative years in the Dresden Minor Hockey System.
“The Ken Houston Memorial Scholarship Award will be given to a Dresden Minor Hockey product, someone that spent their formative years in the Dresden Minor Hockey System, and is graduating from high School, moving on to the next level of education,” the committee said in a press release.
“The successful candidate will show a passion for hockey (and) be driven with a strong work ethic. He or she will have a solid moral compass and will be a leader on and off the ice. This person will enjoy the social aspects that life has to offer and be a community minded person and shows the spirit of giving back.”
The committee says the scholarship recipient will have a strong respect for their peers and will also have a strong respect for coaches and teachers while earning that same respect back.
“If you think you are a deserving candidate for the Ken Houston Memorial Scholarship, please write a 500-word essay on why you think you should receive the Ken Houston Memorial Scholarship Award,” the committee said.
“Please attach two references that may include coaches, teachers, employers or community leaders.”
Anyone interested in being asked to email their 500-word essay and two references to Dave Cameron at email@example.com
“Thank you and good luck,” the committee said.
