DNA helps solve break and enter

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: On December 20, 2019 around 4 a.m. police responded to the report of a suspicious man on the porch of a residence on Fairview Line.

The man fled prior to police arrival, however through investigation, police learned that the man had entered an attached garage, stealing a pair of work boots.

The scene was examined and evidence was seized for forensic analysis.

On February 18, 2020 police received information from the Centre of Forensic Sciences stating that a DNA profile was generated and matched that of a local man.

Yesterday afternoon, police located the man on Park Avenue in Chatham.

The 39-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with break and enter.

He was released pending a future court date of July 15, 2020.

Man charged with mischief

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday afternoon, police responded to the report of a man damaging a parked truck on James Street in Wallaceburg.

The owner of the truck confronted the man, who fled on foot.

Officers located the man across the walking bridge and he was arrested on Wallace Street.

A 27-year-old man of no fixed address was charged with mischief under $5,000.

He was released pending a future court date of July 29, 2020.

Woman arrested on outstanding warrant

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday afternoon, police located a woman in Chatham who was wanted for unlawfully being in a dwelling and causing damage to a residence.

A 31-year-old Chatham woman was arrested and charged.

She was released pending a future court date of July 15, 2020.

Pair charged with break and enter

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Last night, just before 9 p.m. an observant citizen called police to report a break and enter in progress at a business under construction on Grand Avenue in Chatham.

As officers arrived, the woman was found standing by the point of entry.

Officers entered the business and found the man hiding in the attic.

A 39-year-old Chatham man and a 41-year-old Blenheim woman were both arrested and charged with break and enter.

They were released pending a future court date of June 23, 2020.

Alarm leads to break and enter charge

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Shortly after 5 a.m. this morning, police responded to an alarm at a business on Lark Street in Chatham.

Officers entered the building and located the man inside.

A 38-year-old Tilbury man was arrested and charged with break and enter.

He was released pending a future court date of June 30, 2020.

Theft of tools in Chatham

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Sometime yesterday between 12:30 a.m. and 7 a.m. unknown suspects forced their way into a van in a parking lot on Dufferin Avenue, causing about $500 damage.

The suspects stole:

– Two Milwaukee battery powered drills and chargers

– Miscellaneous hand tools

Total value of the theft has been estimated at $500.

Motor vehicle collision

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday morning, police responded to a two vehicle collision on McNaughton Avenue East near St. Clair Street in Chatham.

No one was injured.

Total damage was estimated at $50,000.

A 75-year-old Chatham man was charged with making a turn not in safety.
