Flood watch: Peak water levels expected on Wednesday

The St. Clair Region Conservation Authority has released another update on the flood watch they have in place.

“Rainfall received over the weekend is currently making its way through the watershed, resulting in elevated water levels and minor flooding in some communities,” SCRCA officials stated.

“Levels on the Sydenham River in Alvinston and Brigden are anticipated to peak this afternoon, followed by Dresden and Black Creek later this evening and Wallaceburg tomorrow afternoon.”

The following roads are impacting by high water levels:

St. Clair Township

– Waterworks Road from Moore Line to north of Courtright Line

Wallaceburg

– Nelson Street between Wall Street and Trafalgar Street

– Otter Line

– Emily Street at Elizabeth Street

“River banks are expected to be slippery, with possible minor erosion,” SCRCA officials stated.

“Residents are reminded to avoid watercourses and flooded areas due to slippery banks and cold, swift moving water. Children and pets should be kept away from the water. The Conservation Authority continues to monitor watershed conditions and will issue advisories to municipalities and media should flood issues arise.”

Municipal emergency response staff and road superintendents should monitor local conditions closely, SCRCA officials added.

This message will remain in effect until Thursday, May 21, 2020, unless otherwise updated.
