Summer day camps not yet permitted in Chatham-Kent

CK Public Health officials say while the Province of Ontario had indicated in news releases that summer camps might be able to run in July and August, summer day camps are not yet permitted to run in Chatham-Kent.

CK Public Health officials say this follows the current emergency orders from both the Province of Ontario and the Chatham-Kent Medical Officer of Health.

New cases of COVID-19 infection in Ontario are trending upward, not downward, CK Public Health officials say.

On March 13, 2020, Dr. David Colby, Medical Officer of Health ordered that “day camps, programs and organized activities that allow for the close interaction amongst children and youth are not permitted in Chatham-Kent.”

As of May 25, this order has not been rescinded, and remains an active order of health and safety.

“While camps cannot operate at this time, this is not permanent for our community,” stated Dr. Colby, in a media release.

“We recognize this may be challenging news, and would like to thank our community partners for their cooperation in maintaining physical distancing and group numbers five or less.”

CK Public Health officials say they are monitoring the COVID-19 situation closely and will continue to provide the public with updates.
