Wallaceburg Minor Hockey Association optimistic for the 2020-2021 season

The Wallaceburg Minor Hockey Association is optimistic that the 2020-2021 season will take place, despite the uncertainty with the COVID-19 pandemic.

“It is Wallaceburg Minor Hockey Association’s goal to always keep all of our players and families safe on and off the ice,” Wallaceburg hockey officials posted on their website.

“As we navigate through these unprecedented times we continue to modify and adapt our approach to a hockey season while sticking to our goal.”

Wallaceburg hockey officials added: “Please rest assure that the current WMHA board is monitoring the effect of COVID-19 on the upcoming season and how we can responsibly structure a plan for return to hockey. We will be working with Hockey Canada, OMHA, OWMA, OHF and our facility providers to determine the steps needed to safely start hockey again as soon as possible. In the very unlikely event that there is a cancellation of the season – WMHA will commit to sending back refunds in a timely manner.”

Wallaceburg hockey officials say all minor hockey associations in Ontario, male and female, have recently been directed by the Ontario Hockey Federation (OHF) to not collect any additional registration fees from registering players.

“Players are still encouraged to follow the links for online registration which will ‘pre-register’ a player without collecting any money,” Wallaceburg hockey officials say.

“For players and families that have already made a registration payment, the WMHA has been directed by OHF to set those fees aside in trust and will not be using them until the length and structure of the 2020-21 season has been determined.”

Wallaceburg hockey officials say regardless of the current outlook, they are encouraging all players to pre-register without payment online.

“This will allow us to accurately plan for the upcoming season,” Wallaceburg hockey officials say.

“Our goal remains the same, keep everyone safe and provide an opportunity to all hockey players in our area. No hockey player will be left behind.”
