Man charged with domestic related offences

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday morning, police became aware of an incident of domestic violence that occurred over the weekend at a residence in Chatham.

Through investigation, police learned that the man assaulted his girlfriend during an argument, causing her to require medical attention. The man also damaged property in the home with a machete.

Late yesterday afternoon, police located the man and he was arrested.

The 24-year-old Chatham man has been charged with assault, aggravated assault, uttering threats and weapons dangerous.

He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Suspicious person leads to charges

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Around 2:30 a.m. this morning, police responded to the report of a suspicious man in the backyard of a residence on Elizabeth Street in Chatham.

Officers located the man on Selkirk Street and through investigation learned that he was currently bound by a curfew.

The 50-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with failing to comply with his release conditions.

He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Kitchen appliances stolen in Chatham

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Sometime over the weekend, unknown suspects forced their way into a home under construction on Selkirk Street, causing about $1,000 damage.

Once inside, the suspects stole a Samsung stainless streel refrigerator and dishwasher.

Total value of the theft has been estimated at $2,000.

Theft of ATV in Camden Township

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Sometime between Friday at 10 p.m. and Saturday at 5 a.m. unknown suspects entered a garage on Dawn Mills Road and stole:

– 2011 Arctic Cat blue 4-wheeler with Ontario license plate 95WC8

– Honda 1800w Inverter Generator

– Husqvarna 41cc chain saw with 18” blade

Man charged with obstruct police

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Early on Monday morning, police responded to the report of a suspicious man sitting in a red car in the area of Elizabeth Street and Grand Avenue in Chatham.

An officer on general patrol located the Ford Focus in an alley way and through investigation learned that license plates were registered to a silver BMW.

The man was arrested and the license plates were seized.

Upon being arrested, the man provided the officer with a false name.

Incident to arrest, the man was searched and his true identity was revealed.

The officer further learned that the man was currently bound by a Probation Order with a curfew.

The 40-year-old man was charged with being in possession of property obtained by a crime, obstruct police and failing to comply with his Probation Order.

He was released pending a future court date of September 23, 2020.
