Man charged with impaired driving in Chatham

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: The Chatham-Kent Police arrested a man for impaired driving after a citizen reported a traffic complaint.

At approximately 8 p.m., police responded and initiated a traffic stop after the vehicle drove into a garbage can.

Through investigation, the officer believed that the man was driving his car while under the influence of alcohol and he was arrested.

The man was transported to police headquarters for further breath tests.

A 73-year-old Chatham man has been charged with driving while impaired and failure or refusal to comply with demand.

He was released with a future court date.

Man arrested for assault

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: The Chatham-Kent Police responded to an assault complainant in Wallaceburg at about 1 a.m.

The accused was asked to leave the residence by the victim and he took exception to this request.

He proceeded to punch the victim in the face and left the residence.

Police located the male a short time later and he was arrested, charged and released with a court date of September 11, 2020.

Break and enter

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: The Chatham-Kent Police are looking for information regarding a break and enter on Fargo Road in Harwich Township.

Sometime overnight, unknown suspects broke a window to gain entry in one of the outside buildings.

As well, the front plexiglass windows on a storage barn were kicked in.

It is unknown at this time if anything was taken.

Man charged with domestic related offences

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: The Chatham-Kent Police have arrested a man following an investigation regarding domestic violence.

On Thursday, August 6 around 11 a.m., the man and his ex-girlfriend became engaged in a verbal argument.

The incident escalated to the point that the man threw a beer can and an ice cap at the victim resulting in him being charged with two counts of assault.

When the victim was attempting to leave the residence, the man proceeded to utter threats and was charged accordingly.

The 23-year-old has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

B&E on Whitebirch Trail in Chatham

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Suspects entered a garage and removed a bike, saw, helmet, and sunglasses.

Arson on Tweedsmuir Avenue West in Chatham

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: The homeowner found burn marks and a strong smell of gasoline beside her side door and damage to a water hose.

B&E on Richmond Street in Chatham

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: A complainant reported a break and enter to a business on Richmond Street in Chatham on August 3, 2020. A gym bag with shoes, wallet and $80 was taken.

Security was video reviewed, a suspect was identified, arrested and charged and released with a future court date.

B&E on Victoria Street in Thamesville

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: The victim reported between
1 a.m. and 5 a.m. on August 5, 2020 unknown suspect broke into his garage and stole $200 worth of alcohol.

The investigation is ongoing anyone with information is encouraged to contact Const. Lauzon.

B&E on Otter Line in Wallaceburg

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Sometime between Tuesday and Thursday unknown suspects broke into a shed on the property.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is encouraged to contact Const. Bakker.

B&E on Mill Street West in Tilbury

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: A suspect entered the business through an open window.

Once inside the suspect removed various vehicle keys and fled the area in a stolen Chevrolet Cobalt (taken from business). Suspect was located a short time later, arrested and charged with break and enter and possession of stolen property.

Drug offences

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: As a result of a traffic stop a local man was arrested on outstanding warrant.

While being placed under arrest, officers located a small amount of
Fentanyl.

The male was transported to headquarters and subsequently released with a future court date.
