Local police officers face charges

The Chatham-Kent Police Service and the Sarnia Police Service have worked together on two separate investigations, which has resulted in two officers being charged.

“On March 21, 2020, the Chatham-Kent Police were called to an occurrence in Chatham involving an off-duty member,” Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege.

“CKPS officers initially responded to the call and began to investigate. To ensure impartiality, the Chatham-Kent Police Service requested the Sarnia Police Service take carriage of the investigation.”

As a result, a Chatham-Kent Police Service Constable was arrested on Thursday without incident.

“(The officer) has been charged with one count of possession of a controlled substance,” Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege.

“(The officer) was released and scheduled to appear in Chatham Court on October 21, 2020 at 9 a.m. in court room #103. (The officer) was on a leave of absence at the time of incident and will remain on this leave of absence.”

Police say no further information will be released in order to respect the integrity of the investigation and pending the Police Services Act process.

In a separate incident, Sarnia Police Service officials allege on May 22, 2020, they received a complaint regarding a possible fraud involving one its members.

“The Sarnia Police Service requested that the Chatham-Kent Police Service conduct an investigation into the off duty conduct of the Sarnia Police officer,” Sarnia Police Service officials allege.

Sarnia Police officials say as a result of the investigation the officer was charged on August 24, 2020, with the following:

– Uttering a Forged Document

– Forgery

– Attempt Fraud

To protect the identity of the complainant the officer’s name will not be released, Sarnia Police Service officials say.
