Don’t take ‘no’ for an answer

From The Pastor’s Pen – By Brian Horrobin

As story came out in early summer about a young Greek student studying at the University of Abedeen in Scotland, the 20-year-old found himself on the horns of a dilemma as the pandemic broke out in that part of the world.

With all flights being cancelled, young Kleon Papadimitriou found himself with no way to get back home to Athens, Greece.

The adventuresome student decided that he would make the 3,500 km trek home by bicycle.

He did a little research about what kind of bike to purchase that would be suitable and then loaded up 30 kg of equipment, which included tire repair supplies, a small tent, a sleeping bag, peanut butter, and some sardines.

He set up an Instagram account to stay connected with family and also to chronicle his journey.

He set out on May 10 and went through many trials, including several flat ties, but he soldiered on undaunted until he reached home on June 27.

When asked why he chose to bike over other forms of transportation, the answer was simple: “I like adventures so when I couldn’t fly home I decided to go by bike.”

Sometimes we feel like life cannot be handled outside the safety of our usual way of doing things.

But what happens when a curve ball is thrown our way and our usual way won’t work?

Then what are we going to do?

A follower of Christ always has a trump card up his sleeve and it’s found in Philippians 4:13, where the apostle Paul says, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

My own strength and ability is limited, and sometimes life’s situations demand more than my reserves can supply.

But with the Lord at the centre of my life I can face the challenge with confidence knowing that heaven backs me up.

Maybe it’s time for you to give Jesus another look and see what He can do for you.
