Baseline Bridge closing for rehabilitation in Wallaceburg

The Baseline Bridge in Wallaceburg is set to be closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic starting today, Monday, October 19, 2020 at 7 a.m.

Municipality of Chatham-Kent officials say they have secured a contractor for the rehabilitation of the bridge.

The bridge will be closed until approximately January 15, 2021, Municipal officials stated.

“After that date, the bridge will be opened to vehicular and pedestrian traffic until the spring of 2021,” Municipal officials said in a press release.

“An additional bridge closure is required in the spring of 2021 to complete specialized paving work. Details will be provided at a later date.”

Municipal officials say a navigational opening of 2.6 m x 12.0 m will be maintained throughout construction for smaller boats only.

“All other marine traffic will not be able to pass after Sunday, October 25, 2020 at 7 p.m.,” Municipal officials say.

Baseline Road will be closed at the bridge, between Gillard Street and Old Glass Road.

Municipal officials say all lanes will be closed with no access across the bridge.

“Emergency service vehicles will not have access,” Municipal officials say.

The detour route is Old Glass Road, to Mason Street, to Arnold Road, to Dufferin Avenue and to McNaughton Avenue.
