Disturbance leads to weapon charges

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Just before 6 a.m. yesterday morning, police responded to a disturbance in Chatham.

Through investigation, police learned that the man was arguing with his girlfriend when two other people in the home tried to intervene.

As the girlfriend and two friends left, the man followed them and brandished two knives.

The man chased them down the street and tried to slash the tires of a nearby van.

When neighbours called police, the man returned to his apartment and locked himself inside.

Officers negotiated with the man and he eventually opened the door.

The 35-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with being in possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and two counts of assault with a weapon.

He was additionally charged with assault and forcible confinement in regards to a prior domestic related incident.

He has been remanded into custody pending a bail hearing.

Man charged with mischief

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday afternoon, police responded to a domestic disturbance at an apartment in Chatham.

Through investigation, police learned that during the dispute, the man also damaged property belonging to his girlfriend.

The 28-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with mischief under $5,000 and assault.

He was released pending a future court date of November 18, 2020.

Man charged with failing to comply

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: On March 20, 2020 a man was released from custody with several conditions.

One of those conditions stated that he was to obey a daily curfew of 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Last night around 10:30 p.m. an officer on general patrol observed the man riding a bicycle westbound on Grand Avenue East in Chatham in the eastbound curb lane.

The officer initiated a traffic stop, however the man fled on his bicycle through a nearby empty lot.

The man was stopped a short distance away and taken into custody.

A 36-year-old Chatham man has been charged with failing to comply with his release conditions.

He was released pending a future court date of November 20, 2020.

Storage units entered in Dresden

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Sometime late Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning, unknown suspects entered six storage units on Community Road.

Officers continue to work with the owners to determine what, if anything, was stolen.

Mischief to vehicle in Chatham

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: On Saturday, October 10, 2020 around 3 a.m. unknown suspects used a rock and smashed the front windshield and driver’s side window of a vehicle parked in a driveway on Ottawa Drive.

Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $5,000.
