Man charged with driving and drug offences
Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Shortly after 8 a.m. yesterday, while on patrol in Shrewsbury, and officer observed a vehicle travelling on New Scotland Line towards Fargo Road.
The officer recognized the vehicle and knew that it was currently uninsured.
The officer attempted a traffic stop however the driver sped up and continued driving.
A second officer attended to assist.
The man used his vehicle to intentionally strike a cruiser to escape when the officers attempted to block him.
The officer was able to stay in control of his vehicle and use the cruiser to slow down the man until his vehicle came to a complete stop.
As officers approached the vehicle, the man locked himself in, resulting in the officer having to break a window to effect the arrest.
The man resisted arrest, but was taken into custody, following a short struggle.
Through investigation, police learned that the man was suspended from driving and that he did not have consent from the registered owner to be driving the vehicle.
Upon being searched incident to arrest, the man was found to be in possession of suspected Fentanyl, crystal methamphetamine, methamphetamine, cannabis marihuana, glass pipe and large quantity of cash.
A 24-year-old Blenheim man has been charged with:
– Theft of motor vehicle
– Dangerous operation of motor vehicle
– Flight from police
– Assault with a weapon
– Resist arrest
– Drive while under suspension
– Two counts of possession for the purposes of trafficking
He has been remanded into custody pending a bail hearing.
Industrial accident in Chatham
Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Shortly after 10 a.m. yesterday morning, police responded to an industrial accident on Park Avenue West in Chatham.
A 44-year-old man was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Ministry of Labour was contacted and has taken over the investigation.
Disturbance leads to assault charges
Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday afternoon, an 18-year-old man attended police headquarters to report that he had just been assaulted on Wellington Street West in Chatham, by two men known to him.
Officers attended the area and located the two men responsible.
A 26-year-old Wallaceburg man was arrested and charged with assault.
He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
A 24-year-old man of no fixed address was arrested and charged with assault.
He was released pending a future court date of November 4, 2020.
Collision leads to impaired driving charges
Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Last night around 5:30 p.m. an off-duty officer observed a three-vehicle collision on Park Avenue East near Queen Street in Chatham.
Through investigation, the officer believed that the man responsible for the collision was driving while under the influence of alcohol.
The man was arrested and transported to the OPP detachment for breath tests.
A 62-year-old Chatham man has been charged with having a blood alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit.
He was released pending a future court date of November 18, 2020.
No one was injured as a result of the collision.
Total damage was estimated at $65,000.
Man charged with mischief
Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Shortly after 8 p.m. last night, police responded to a mischief complaint on Queen Street in Chatham.
An observant citizen witnessed the man use a pipe to smash the window of a business.
The citizen immediately called police who located the man a short distance away.
Total damage was estimated at $1,500.
The 37-year-old man of no fixed address was arrested and charged with mischief.
He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
Man charged with stunt driving
Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday morning, an officer with the Traffic Unit observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed on Talbot Trail.
The officer recorded the man driving 158 km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone.
A traffic stop was initiated and the 40-year-old Raleigh Township man was charged with stunt driving.
His license has been suspended for seven days and his vehicle has been impounded for seven days as per the Vehicle Impoundment Program.
His vehicle was also towed from the scene.
Traffic enforcement
Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday, members of the Traffic Unit conducted enforcement throughout the Municipality.
Eight motorists were stopped and charged with speeding.
