Police: Knife pulled on officer, arson, assault, mischief

Man brandishes knife towards police 

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday afternoon, police responded to the report of a suspicious man in the parking lot of a church on Sandys Street in Chatham.

An officer located the man walking through traffic on Grand Avenue, acting erratically and yelling at cars, causing multiple vehicles to slam on their brakes.

The officer stopped to talk to the man once he was safely on the sidewalk.

The man aggressively turned towards the officer and brandished a large butcher knife in a threatening manner.

The officer un-holstered his conducted energy weapon (taser) and used verbal commands to de-escalate the situation.

The man complied and dropped the knife.

The 37-year-old Chatham man was arrested and upon being searched, spat on the cruiser several times.

The man was charged with being in possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Man charged with arson

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: On Tuesday night, emergency crews responded to a dumpster fire near Riverview Gardens on King Street West in Chatham.

Through investigation, police identified the man responsible.

Yesterday afternoon, a 46-year-old man, of no fixed address, was arrested and charged with arson.

He was released pending a future court date of December 9, 2020.

Man charged with assault

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Last night, police responded to a disturbance between family members in Chatham.

A 19-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with assault.

He was released pending a future court date of December 9, 2020.

Disturbance leads to assault charges

Early this morning, police arrested two men in connection with a disturbance that occurred earlier in the evening, resulting in the victim requiring medical attention.

An 18-year-old man and 22-year-old man, both of Chatham, were charged with assault causing bodily harm.

They were released pending a future court date of December 9, 2020.

Man charged with mischief

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Early this morning, police responded to a disturbance at a residence in Chatham.

Through investigation, police learned that the man attended his ex-girlfriend’s residence and damaged her vehicle.

The 19-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with mischief under $5,000.

He was released pending a future court date of December 4, 2020.

Executed warrants

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday afternoon, police arrested a man who was wanted in connection with a family dispute.

The 28-year-old Chatham man was charged with assault and mischief.

He was held in custody pending a bail hearing and remanded into custody until November 20, 2020.

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday afternoon, Windsor Police arrested a man who was wanted for failing to comply with a Court Order.

A 37-year-old Windsor man was transported back to Chatham-Kent and additionally charged with failing to comply with his release conditions.

He was released pending a future court date of December 15, 2020.

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Last night, an officer on general patrol in Wallaceburg initiated a traffic stop on Elizabeth Street.

Through investigation, the officer learned that a man in the vehicle was wanted by OPP.

The 63-year-old Chatham man was arrested and turned over to OPP for court purposes.
