Families traded ordinary Sunday attire for capes, crowns and costumes as the Everest Convention Centre was transformed into a magical kingdom for the Capes and Crowns fundraiser in support of Cystic Fibrosis Canada.
The family-friendly event brought together children, parents and community supporters for a morning filled with a pancake breakfast, face painting, balloon art, character visits and raffle prizes. Young attendees had the opportunity to meet princesses, superheroes and other costumed characters while creating lasting memories with their families.
The fundraiser was designed to raise both awareness and financial support for Cystic Fibrosis Canada, with proceeds helping fund research, advocacy efforts and programs aimed at improving the lives of people living with cystic fibrosis.
Event organizer Stephanie Badder said the date held special significance for her family. She explained that the event coincided with an important milestone, as her husband is celebrating 15 years since receiving a successful double lung transplant as a result of complications from cystic fibrosis.
Badder said choosing the date was a way to recognize that achievement while also drawing attention to the ongoing need for research and support for those affected by the disease.
Throughout the morning, children embraced the event’s theme by arriving dressed as their favourite princesses, princes and superheroes, while others simply came to enjoy the activities and community atmosphere. Local businesses and supporters also contributed through donated raffle prizes and other support.
Organizers said the event highlighted the power of community involvement and demonstrated how families can come together to support a cause that continues to impact Canadians.
The fundraiser concluded with smiles, photos and plenty of magical moments, while helping generate support for the work of Cystic Fibrosis Canada and offering hope for continued advances in treatment and care.
