Junior ‘C’ hockey league eyeing February start

The Wallaceburg Thunderhawks, Dresden Kings, Blenheim Blades and Wheatley Sharks could be set to start their regular season in February.

Terry Whiteside, commissioner of the Provincial Junior Hockey League, issued a statement this week.

“During a meeting of the Governors of the PJHL, it was decided that the league would set a projected starting date of February 1, 2021 for the regular season,” Whiteside said.

“This date will be incumbent upon gaining the permission of all health authorities and governing bodies and will take into account the safety of our players, coaches, officials, staff and fans.”

Details regarding schedules and playoff formats have been reviewed and will be decided closer to the projected start date, Whiteside added.

The league had originally targeted a December start, but recently pushed that start date to January 1, 2020, before this most recent announcement.

Wallaceburg, Dresden, Blenheim and Wheatley all play in the Stobbs Division of the Provincial Junior Hockey League.
