Orders & donations being accepted for the 46th annual Salvation Army Christmas Luncheon

The Childs family is not letting COVID-19 stop an annual Christmas tradition in the community of Wallaceburg.

The 46th annual Salvation Army Christmas Luncheon will be held Monday, December 14 from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m.

“This year we are offering a roast beef dinner complete with red potato mashed, corn, and gravy with a slice of pie… choice of apple, cherry, pecan or pumpkin,” organizers said on social media.

“The meals can be picked up or delivered and they can be hot or cold… one hour in your oven. We had hoped to host this at the (Black Goose Grill), but with social distancing, we are simply not big enough.”

Order forms are available at the Black Goose Grill or one can be found below:

“You can order for an individual, a family or a small business,” organizers say.

“Payment is a donation of your choosing. 100% of the proceeds will be split between the Salvation Army (75%) and the First Baptist Church (25% for their pantry). Every penny of the money raised stays in Wallaceburg/Dresden/Walpole Island and Port Lambton. This, we personally guarantee.”

Organizers say for those who helped out during the soup kitchen earlier this year, they would be “honoured” to accept e-transfer donations of any amount to help out the cause.

“This money is being used to help those less fortunate enjoy Christmas, so every penny helps,” organizers say.

“This is our 46th year of hosting a luncheon, and despite the COVID times, it will still go on, albeit in a different format. This is a Wallaceburg tradition that has survived the test of time. Help us help others if you can.”

E-transfers and orders can also be sent by email to theblackgoose@hotmail.ca.

“You can also call (the Black Goose Grill at 519-627-4444) and our staff will take your order over the phone,” organizers say.

The Childs family has been running this event since 1974 and has raised over $300,000 since it started.
