Chatham-Kent businesses earn ‘Safe Travels Stamp’

Chatham-Kent Tourism is one of 11 approved users of the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) Safe Travels Stamp, recognizing the destinations’ safe travel protocols.

Municipal officials say the Safe Travels Stamp is an international symbol designed to allow travellers to recognize governments and companies around the world that have adopted standardized health and hygiene protocols so consumers can experience ‘safe travels.’

“When they [customers] see the ‘Safe Travels Stamp’ has been awarded to the destination or hotel they’re planning to visit, they will know that they are upholding the highest standards of health and safety and demonstrating they are adhering to the global health protocols issued by the WTTC,” stated Beth Potter, president and CEO of TIAO, in a press release.

Businesses in Chatham-Kent currently approved to display the Safe Travels stamp include:

– Buxton National Historic Site & Museum

– Churrascaria Steakhouse

– Chatham-Kent Black Historical Society & Black Mecca Museum

– Comfort Inn, Chatham

– John D. Bradley Chatham-Kent Convention Centre

– Kara’s Rose Garden

– Molly & OJ’s

– Red Barn Brewing Co.

– RetroSuites Hotel

– Travelodge, Chatham

– Chatham-Kent Tourism

Denny Vervaet, co-owner of Red Barn Brewing Company explained why he pursued the stamp.

“The Safe Travels Stamp on our front door shows our customers that, not only are we taking all safety and public health protocols seriously, but that they can experience the barn in confidence knowing we take the extra care for them and our own staff,” he said in a press release.

Chatham-Kent Tourism’s ‘See You in CK’ campaign is focused on encouraging CK residents to get out and safely support, shop, and visit local, and the Safe Travels Stamp helps to showcase the measures businesses are taking to make the experience as safe as possible, Municipal official say.

“The Safe Travel’s program is a great visual for the community,” stated Amy Cartier, owner, Kara’s Rose Garden, in a media release.

“This shows that my company has adopted the health and hygiene protocols that are currently in place. We are concerned about the pandemic and your health, but we are doing everything to make your visit safe.”
