Man arrested twice in same day

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday morning, police responded to a shoplifting complaint at the Real Canadian Superstore.

Through investigation, police learned that the man stole electronics valued at approximately $200.

He fled on a bicycle, however officers located him a short distance away.

The man was charged with theft under $5,000 and being in possession of property obtained by a crime under $5,000.

He was released with conditions pending a future court date of January 27, 2021.

Yesterday afternoon, the man returned to the Superstore, even though he was on conditions not to attend the store.

The man stole a cooked package of ribs, ate them and left without paying.

The man proceeded to Walmart, another store that he was currently bound not to attend.

There he stole a mountain bike and electronics valued at approximately $280.

The man attempted to sell the items at a nearby pawnshop.

Officers located the man in this area and he was taken into custody.

The 29-year-old Chatham man was additionally charged with two counts of theft under $5,000, two counts of being in possession of property obtained by a crime under $5,000 and two counts of failing to comply with his release conditions.

He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Youth charged with assault

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday, police responded to an assault complaint at a local high school in Chatham.

A 16-year-old Chatham youth was arrested and charged with assault.

He was released to a parent pending a future court date of January 25, 2021.

Man found breaching curfew

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Last night, around midnight, an officer on general patrol observed a man riding his bicycle on St. Clair Street near Gregory Drive in Chatham.

The man was stopped and taken into custody as he was currently on conditions to obey a daily curfew of 11 p.m. to 6 a.m.

The 28-year-old Chatham man has been charged with failing to comply with his release conditions.

He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Traffic stop leads to charges

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday afternoon, an officer on general patrol in Wallaceburg observed a man driving a black Ford Mustang.

A query of the license plates revealed that the plates were registered to a grey Chevrolet Malibu.

A traffic stop was initiated and the officer further learned that the man was driving with no insurance.

The 46-year-old Walpole Island man was charged with operating a motor vehicle on a highway with no insurance and using plates not authorized for the vehicle.

The man will be required to attend Provincial Offences Court on January 6, 2021.

The vehicle was towed from the scene.

Motor vehicle collisions

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday morning, police responded to a two vehicle collision on Selton Line near Victoria Road.

No one was injured.

Total damage was estimated at $18,000.

The driver at fault was charged with following too closely.

No one was injured.

Total damage was estimated at $8,000.

A 24-year-old Muirkirk man was charged with making a turn not in safety.
