Man breaches court order

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday morning, police located a man on Grant Street in Chatham who was wanted for failing to attend court to provide a DNA sample.

The man was arrested and the warrant was executed.

A 28-year-old Chatham man was charged with failing to comply with a Court Order.

He was released pending a future court date of December 23, 2020.

Man charged with failing to comply

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: On November 20, 2020 a man was released from Court with several conditions.

Some of those conditions stated that he was to remain in his residence in Glencoe at all times except for medical emergencies, not to communicate with a specific Chatham woman or attend her home and not to possess any knives outside his residence.

Yesterday afternoon, police received information that the man was observed entering the woman’s residence in Chatham.

Officers attended the home, however the woman refused to allow police to enter.

Officers believed the man was breaching his release conditions and a warrant was obtained to search the home.

When officers entered the home, they found the man hiding in the attic.

Upon being searched incident to arrest, the man was found to be in possession of a knife.

The 21-year-old man of no fixed address has been charged with four counts of failing to comply with his release conditions.

He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Man charged with mischief

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Late last night, police responded to a mischief complaint at the VIA Rail Station on Queen Street in Chatham.

Through investigation, police learned that the man damaged a vending machine on the property.

Officers located the man a short distance away and he was arrested.

Upon being searched incident to arrest, the man was found to be in possession of a pry bar.

A 29-year-old man, of no fixed address, was charged with mischief under $5,000.

He was released pending a future court date of January 27, 2021.

Theft of forklift in Chatham

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Sometime between Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. and Thursday at 7 a.m. unknown suspects stole a red Moffett forklift from Adams Industrial Forklifts on Richmond Street.

Total value of the theft has been estimated at $20,000.

Traffic enforcement

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday morning, police conducted speed enforcement in Morpeth and on Chatham Street South in Blenheim.

Seven motorists were stopped and charged with speeding.

We would like to remind everyone that road safety is a priority for our Police Service.

Please obey posted speed limits, as enforcement will continue throughout our community in an effort to keep all road users safe.

Motor vehicle collisions

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday afternoon, police responded to a two vehicle collision on Bloomfield Road near Richmond Street in Chatham.

No one was injured.

Total damage was estimated at $20,000.

A 19-year-old Chatham man was charged with failing to stop for a red light.

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday afternoon, police responded to a two vehicle collision on Harvey Street near Raleigh Street in Chatham.

An 82-year-old Chatham woman was transported to hospital as a precaution.

She was charged with failing to stop at a stop sign.

Total damage was estimated at $9,000.

Officers also responded to two collisions involving deer.

Luckily, no one was injured.

Please use caution when travelling during dusk and dawn, which is when most collisions with wildlife occur.
