Break and enter in Chatham

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: The Chatham-Kent Police have arrested a man for break, enter and theft.

On December 9, 2020 at approximately 11 a.m., the Chatham-Kent Police received information that a male party had entered a shed on Grand Avenue West in Chatham and that he was placing items into his backpack.

A 22-year-old man was arrested and charged a short time later.

Through investigation, it was determined that the accused was also wanted on a bench warrant for failing to attend court.

The Chatham man has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Man charged with domestic related offences

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: The Chatham-Kent Police have arrested a man following an investigation regarding domestic violence.

On Wednesday, December 9, 2020 Chatham-Kent Police received information regarding an incident that had occurred on Sunday, December 6, 2020.

The man had verbally attacked his girlfriend and this led to a physical altercation which involved the man picking up a machete, pointing it towards her and uttering threats.

The 60-year-old Chatham man has been charged with:

– Assault Cause Bodily Harm

– Assault with a Weapon

– Uttering Threats

– Forcible Confinement

He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Break and enter in Chatham

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: The Chatham-Kent Police have arrested a man for break, enter and theft.

On December 9, 2020 at approximately 9:30 p.m., an officer on patrol observed the man riding his bike on Charing Cross Road in Chatham and conducted a person stop.

Through investigation, police learned that the man had entered the compound at a nearby business and removed electrical cable, thermostat cable, and copper flexible pipe and had placed these items into a garbage bag to transport them.

The property that was taken was valued at about $200.

The 28-year-old man has been held pending a bail hearing.

Man charged with mischief / false fire alarm

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: The Chatham-Kent Police have arrested a man for mischief over and false alarm of fire.

On December 10, 2020 at approximately 2:20 a.m., the Chatham-Kent Police received information that the fire alarm had been set off at the business located on Richmond Street in Chatham.

Police attended to the room in question and observed water running from under the door into the hallway.

Attempts were made to have the man that was inside the room open the door, but he refused.

After several options that were utilized to gain entry failed, a door ram was used by the police.

The total dollar amount for the water damage is currently being estimated at $50,000.

A 48-year-old man has been arrested and charged.

He will remain in custody pending a bail hearing.
