George Kicknosway Sr. of Walpole Island

George Edward Kicknosway Sr., a member of Walpole Island First Nation, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at the age of 90.

George was the son of the late Edward & Ethel (Jacobs) Kicknosway.

Beloved husband of Vivian (Johnson). Loving father of George Jr (Gail), Denise, Shelley, Elaine (Leonard Shognosh) and Lee Kicknosway.

Dear grandfather of Noreen (Mel), Chrystal (Jason), Peggy, Kristin, Clarence, Nathan, Eli, Cedric, Eva, Leela, Harvey, Pahdahsung and the late Duncan, great grandfather of 25 and great great grandfather of 2 great great grandchildren.

Predeceased by his brothers Joseph, Frank and James and sisters Beulah Peters and Ada Plain.

George was a survivor of Shingwauk Residential School.

He was an avid hunter and trapper.

George was internationally well known for his sweetgrass and medicines at Pow Wows and store Nookmis Craft Variety on Walpole Island.

George was also a member of Labourers’ International Union of North American Local 1089 Sarnia.

The family will receive relatives and friends at George’s home, 677 Chief’s Road (at Tecumseh) on Walpole Island from 9 – 11 AM on Friday, with the funeral at 11 AM. Interment to follow at Highbanks Cemetery. HAYCOCK-CAVANAGH FUNERAL HOME, 409 Nelson Street in Wallaceburg entrusted with arrangements.
