Blood donors needed for clinic scheduled in Dresden

Canadian Blood Services are encouraging new and returning donors to book an appointment in Dresden on Tuesday, December 29, 2020.

“There are currently 30 available appointments,” Marisa Gatfield, territory manager, told the Sydenham Current.

“Blood donations at this time will be essential to collect platelets, a vital blood component with a short expiry of seven days that many patients living with cancer or a blood disorder may need for treatment.”

Gatfield said Canadian Blood Services is recognized as an essential service by the provinces and territories during the pandemic.

“We are committed to welcoming donors into our donor centres to provide their life saving gifts to Canadians,” she said.

“Every donation counts. The demand for blood never stops.”

Gatfield said they are currently only accepting donors with scheduled appointments.

“This is in compliance with the public health agencies request to maintain safe physical distancing,” she said.

Individuals can schedule an appointment to donate by visiting blood.ca; downloading the GiveBlood app, or by calling 1-888-2-DONATE or 1-888-236-6283.

The clinic will be held at the Dresden Arena on Tuesday, December 29, 2020 from 2:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
