Pedestrian dies following collision on Walpole Island First Nation

OPP officials allege: A pedestrian has died following a single-vehicle collision on Walpole Island First Nation.

Members of the Walpole Island Police Service, with the assistance of the Lambton County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police and emergency medical services, responded to the collision involving a sports utility vehicle and a pedestrian on Chiefs Road, between Tecumseh Road and Austin Road, at approximately 11:21 p.m. on September 12, 2026.

The pedestrian, a 48-year-old from Walpole Island First Nation, was pronounced deceased on scene.

Chiefs Road was closed between Tecumseh Road and Austin Road for several hours to allow for the investigation and has since reopened.

The investigation remains ongoing, with the assistance of the West Region OPP Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement Team.

Police are asking anyone who witnessed the collision or has information, including dash cam footage from the area around the time of the collision, to contact the Walpole Island Police Service at 1-888-310-1122.
