CKHA welcomes three new physicians

The Chatham-Kent Health Alliance has announced the addition of three new physicians to the organization.

Hospital officials say Drs. Peyvand Ashtarani and Lindsay Sheinfeld join CKHA as Emergency Medicine Physicians and Dr. Tawfik Masaud joins in the role of Psychiatrist.

“We are pleased to welcome Doctors Ashtarani, Masaud and Sheinfeld to our clinical team and the community of Chatham-Kent,” stated Dr. Pervez Faruqi, Chief of Staff, CKHA, in a press release.

“Their contributions to our programs and services will be a great addition to CKHA and help us further our commitment to delivering Patient and Family Centred Care.”

Dr. Ashtarani earned his Doctor of Medicine from Tehran University of Medical Science in Tehran, Iran and completed his Residency training in Family Medicine at Western University in London, CKHA officials say.

Dr. Ashtarani spent his early career practicing as a Family Physician in Tehran, Iran in various health care settings.

After arriving in Canada, he held a variety of roles in the Toronto area as a Medical Assistant at St. Joseph Health Centre, a Research Coordinator at Scarborough Health Network – Centenary Hospital and Medical Attendant at Ambutrans Medical Services and Transportation, hospital officials added.

During his Residency training, Dr. Ashtarani practiced at the South Huron Hospital in Exeter and started his comprehensive family practice after his graduation.

Following this, he moved to Richmond Hill and began practicing full time rural Emergency Medicine plus pain management in Toronto.

Dr. Ashtarani joined CKHA as a Locum Emergency Medicine Physician in 2014 and earlier this year, increased his involvement in the Emergency Department by permanently joining the organization, CKHA officials say.

“I have worked in many places but never found a place better than Chatham-Kent Health Alliance. We have the best group of staff, nurses, physicians and we deliver exceptional care to the patients,” said Dr. Ashtarani in a media release.

Dr. Masaud earned his Bachelor of Medicine from the University of Tripoli, Faculty of Medicine in Libya and became a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in the United Kingdom in 2010, hospital officials say.

He earned a Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training in Psychiatry from the College of Psychiatrists of Ireland in 2014.

Dr. Masaud has been a member of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada since 2017.

Dr. Masaud spent his early career practicing in various settings in the United Kingdom and Ireland.

In 2016, he joined the Saskatchewan Health Authority as a General Adult Psychiatrist.

Most recently, he held the role of Community Psychiatrist at the Regina Mental Wellness Clinic in Regina, Saskatchewan as well Assistant Professor at the University of Saskatchewan, CKHA officials added.

“The community of Chatham-Kent was appealing to me for several reasons: it’s a nice size to achieve a good work-life balance; an ideal place to raise a young family; it has a warmer climate; and you can enjoy the benefits of a small city while living closer to bigger centres,” said Dr. Masaud in a media release.

Dr. Sheinfeld earned a Master of Science in Interdisciplinary Health Sciences from the University of Ottawa in 2015 and received her Bachelor of Medicine from McMaster University in Hamilton in 2018, hospital officials say.

She recently completed her Residency in Family Medicine at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, hospital officials say.

During her time in medical school, Dr. Sheinfeld contributed as a Clinical Skills Educator and was a member of the Undergraduate Education Committee where she was responsible for fostering undergraduate medical students’ interest in Family Medicine, CKHA officials added.

“I am thrilled to join the Emergency services team at CKHA. The community atmosphere of the hospital has been an ideal place for me to practice and I have felt very welcomed by my colleagues,” said Dr. Sheinfeld in a press release.
