Emergency child care being offered

Emergency child care is set to be offered from January 4-8, 2021.

Municipality of Chatham-Kent officials say on Monday, December 21, the Premier of Ontario announced a provincewide shutdown beginning December 26, 2020 at 12:01 a.m.

The province also announced Safer at Home Programs to provide relief and support to Ontario families.

One of the public health measures now in place has all elementary schools, publicly funded and private, closing for in-person learning.

Students enrolled in publicly funded schools will move to virtual learning for the week of January 4 to January 8, 2021, Municipal officials say.

“Child care will remain open for the duration of these time-limited public health actions,” Municipal officials said in a media release.

“This includes child care offered in licensed child care centres and in home-based settings. All before and after school programs must close from January 4 to January 8. These programs may resume operation when elementary schools return to in-person learning on January 11, 2021.”

To support the parents of school-aged children who may not be able to support their child’s learning/care at home, the Ministry of Education will be implementing a targeted emergency child care program for school-aged children, at no cost to eligible parents, from January 4-8, 2021, Municipal officials added.
