Walpole Island First Nation officials have provided an update, after their police department was recently closed due to COVID-19.
“Not all officers were affected but all were tested to be clear to return to work,” Walpole Island officials say.
“Officers required to quarantine will continue to do so, and those cleared by Public Health will be returning to duty.”
Walpole Island officials say the police building has been sanitized and additional equipment has been ordered.
“The OPP will continue to provide support and coverage as required,” Walpole Island officials say.
“We appreciate community understanding and cooperation as we move through all aspects of this pandemic and lockdown. Please continue vigilance with recommended precautions such as social distancing, wearing a mask and hand hygiene.”
The Walpole Island Health Centre will resume on-site COVID-19 testing on January 4, 2021.
“Please watch for more information regarding the availability of the COVID-19 vaccine,” Walpole Island officials say.
As of Sunday, January 3, 2021, there is one active COVID-19 case on Walpole Island.
Since the pandemic began in March, there has been 24 positive case on the First Nation reserve and one death.
Walpole Island officials said if residents are experiencing symptoms, they should self-isolate immediately and call the Walpole Island Health Centre at 519-627-0765 or after hours, call Telehealth at 1-866-797-0000.
