4th COVID-19 death in Chatham-Kent

A fourth person has died from COVID-19 in Chatham-Kent.

The deceased was a 91-year-old Chatham man, who was living at home prior to getting ill, CK Public Health officials say.

He died on Thursday morning at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, Chatham Campus.

Lori Marshall, president and CEO of the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance and Dr. David Colby, Chief Medical Officer of Health in Chatham-Kent, confirmed the news during a press conference on Thursday morning, January 14, 2021, CK Public Health officials told the Sydenham Current.

CK Public Health officials added no further details were provided and the death will be reported on the 10:30 a.m. status update on Friday, January 15, 2021.

This is the first COVID-19 death in Chatham-Kent since the fall, when a woman in her 80’s died on Saturday, October 3, 2020 at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance.

The first COVID-19 death in Chatham-Kent, a woman in her 80’s, was back in April, while the second, a woman in her 50’s, was at the beginning of August.

Chatham-Kent Health Alliance officials told the Sydenham Current that currently, as of Thursday, January 14, 2021, there are two COVID-19 positive patients in the progressive care unit, two in the intensive care unit, including one patient on a ventilator.

Hospital officials added there five COVID-19 positive patients in the COVID unit, three non-Chatham-Kent residents are in hospital and there are seven patients on a ventilator in total in ICU, with only one being COVID-19 positive.
