Positive COVID-19 cases confirmed at WDSS, A.A. Wright & other C-K school communities

The Lambton-Kent District School Board announced on Tuesday, February 9, 2021 a total of five positive cases of COVID-19 among students.

Individual cases were confirmed in the school communities at Wallaceburg District Secondary School, A.A. Wright Public School in Wallaceburg, John McGregor Secondary School and McNaughton Avenue Public School in Chatham and at North Lambton Secondary School in Forest.

A consistent message was posted on the school’s websites on Tuesday.

“At this time, Chatham-Kent Public Health does not feel there is any impact to the school, nor are they dismissing any students or staff,” Lambton-Kent District School Board officials say.

“Students, staff and families are encouraged to remain vigilant and follow the health and safety protocols in place to mitigate the transmission of COVID-19, including completing the daily school screening assessment tool. Together, we will continue to support a safe operation of schools.”

CK Public Health officials confirmed with the Sydenham Current on Wednesday, February 10, 2021, that exposure occurred prior to school’s reopening this week.

“We were aware of some positive results that were related to exposures before school reopening and that the students impacted were already home isolating and hadn’t been in attendance this week,” Jeff Moco, a spokesperson with CK Public Health, told the Sydenham Current.

The Lambton Kent District School Board follows the direction of Chatham-Kent and Lambton Public Health regarding the communication of confirmed COVID-19 cases, school board officials say.

“In the event of a confirmed case of COVID-19, Public Health will contact any individuals (students and staff) who may have been in potential contact with the virus,” public school board officials say.

“If you have not been contacted by Public Health, you have not been in close contact with a confirmed case.”

There have been zero positive cases announced by the St. Clair Catholic District School Board this week.

CK Public Health officials confirmed that the school outbreak at Lambton-Kent Composite School in Dresden was declared over on Tuesday. A total of two cases among staff were linked to this outbreak, which was first declared on January 26, 2021.
