The dynamics of a workplace have never been more diverse when it comes to the needs of different generations of employees all under one roof, or in the case of social distancing due to COVID, all working from a variety of locations.
To help address the opportunities and challenges that are inherent in this dynamic, the Chatham-Kent Small Business Centre is hosting a workshop called Thriving in a Multi-Generational Workplace.
The online event is being held on March 24, 2021 from 12 p.m. to 1:30 pm. and will look at how businesses can effectively operate and communicate with upwards of five generations working together, each bringing their own experiences, perspectives, and goals to the table.
“The first step of the session will be to look at the distinguishing factors of Leading vs Managing and how it impacts engagement. Then we will have a discussion about the characteristics of the distinct demographic groups, the Silent Generation, Baby Boomers, Generation X, Y, and the emerging Generation Z,” stated Matt Reaume, economic development officer with the Small Business Centre, in a media release.
“The goal is that people will leave the workshop with some tools and resources that can have an immediate positive impact with their teams.”
It has been well reported over the past several years that each generation has its own nuances and different ways to communicate and connect, Municipal officials say.
These communication hurdles create barriers and frustrations.
Adding in a global pandemic, new health and safety protocols, working remotely, and a mix of other changes has amplified the need for clear communications.
“We are bringing in Gary MacDonald, Founder and CEO of Clearview Training and Consulting, to lead the session as he is an expert with over 40 years in developing leaders and organizations,” Reaume added.
“Gary will be able to help answer the tough questions that we know are facing organizations right now. After all, growth in an organization is not just about adding more people. It’s also about helping the people you have gel together so that you’re running at 100 percent.”
