2nd COVID-19 death on Walpole Island

The second COVID-19 death has been reported on Walpole Island.

Officials with the First Nation reserve released the number shortly after 12 p.m. on Tuesday, March 16, 2021.

More details were not immediately available.

The first COVID-19 on Walpole Island was announced by officials through social media back on Friday, May 15, 2020.

Currently, there are seven active COVID-19 cases on Walpole Island.

Since the pandemic began last March, 72 Walpole Island residents have tested positive for the virus.

A total of 63 cases are resolved, while 758 COVID-19 tests have been completed.

There are 31 pending results currently and 655 tests have come back negative.

The First Nation reserve is currently in the ‘Red-Restrict’ tier of the Keeping Ontario Safe and Open Framework, Walpole Island officials say.

Walpole Island officials added if residents are experiencing symptoms, they should self-isolate immediately and call the Walpole Island Health Centre at 519-627-0765 or after hours, call Telehealth at 1-866-797-0000.
