Active COVID-19 case count jumps to 91 in C-K, dialysis unit outbreak over at CKHA

The active COVID-19 case count has jumped by 13 and now sits at 91 across Chatham-Kent.

The Chatham-Kent Public Health Unit updated their ‘current situation’ page, which provides a summary of COVID-19 cases and testing in Chatham-Kent, on Friday, March 19, 2021.

The total number of COVID-19 cases increased by 21 and sits at 1,496 across Chatham-Kent.

CK Public Health officials say one person remains hospitalized with COVID-19 from Chatham-Kent.

Public health officials announced eight new recoveries, increasing the total at 1,396.

The outbreak in the dialysis unit of the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance (CKHA) was declared over on Friday.

“CKHA is pleased to share that the COVID-19 outbreak declared in the dialysis unit at the Chatham site on March 7, 2021 has been declared over by Chatham-Kent Public Health,” hospital officials said in a press release.

“There are no active COVID-19 outbreaks at CKHA at this time. CKHA would like to thank Chatham-Kent Public Health for their guidance and support during this outbreak, and the hospital’s staff and physicians for their continued commitment to providing safe, high quality care under these difficult circumstances.”

Hospital officials added: “Infection prevention and control measures will remain in place across the organization and CKHA will continue to review and monitor the impact of the pandemic on our operations. Visitor restrictions will remain in place and only essential care partners are permitted for inpatients at this time; please see CKHA’s website for further details on essential care partners. Questions or concerns about visitor restrictions can be directed to the primary nurse and/or patient relations.”

An institutional outbreaks at Copper Terrace in Chatham was also declared over on Friday.

An outbreak at an un-named place of worship, which was announced by public health officials on Wednesday, remains active.

56 of the active cases across Chatham-Kent are linked to close contact, 12 cases have information pending, 10 are linked to travel, eight are unknown, three are linked to outbreaks in community settings and two cases are linked to institutional outbreaks in Chatham-Kent.

Since the pandemic began in March, nine people from Chatham-Kent have died from COVID-19.

A total of 92,241 tests for the virus have been completed to date.

Public health officials say 15,854 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine had been administered to date.

Beginning on Monday, March 1, 2021, Chatham-Kent moved into the ‘Orange-Restrict’ tier of the Keeping Ontario Safe and Open framework.

Provincial officials announced on Friday, March 12, 2021 that Chatham-Kent would remain in the ‘Orange-Restrict’ tier.

“Each colour level will be reassessed every two weeks,” CK Public Health officials say.

An announcement on Chatham-Kent’s status is expected to be made sometime on Friday.
