Third Street Bridge set to be closed in Chatham for rehabilitation

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent has secured a contractor, Toronto Zenith, for the rehabilitation of the Third Street Bridge in Chatham.

Municipal officials say commencing Monday, April 26, 2021, the Third Street Bridge will be closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic.

It is anticipated that the project will be completed in the spring of 2022, Municipal officials say.

“Chatham-Kent is committed to working with Toronto Zenith to maintain a safe and orderly worksite,” Municipal officials said in a media release.

“All efforts will be made to reduce the impact on the surrounding areas and businesses. Construction sites have many potential hazards and extreme caution should be taken by adhering to the safety requirements and to stay outside of the construction zones. Detours will be posted to direct traffic around the site, which includes the Lacroix Street and Fifth Street bridges.”

The navigational clearance for this bridge is 6 m x 3.5 m and every effort will be made to maintain this clearance for safe navigation for the duration of construction, Municipal officials added.

CKTransit route detours will be posted on the buses, at the terminal and on the website at www.cktransit.ca.
