Firefighters respond to fires in Chatham and near Ridgetown

Chatham-Kent firefighters responded to two fires in the community on Thurday, May 14, 2021.

“Crews from station #1 & #2 – Chatham responded to a house fire at 33 Degge Street just after 1 a.m. (on Thursday) morning,” fire officials say.

“Firefighters worked quickly to knock down the blaze. The homeowner and two children were home at the time and escaped without injury along with two dogs. The cause was deemed undetermined by CKFES fire investigators.

Damage is pegged at $250,000.

“Protect your family from fire and carbon monoxide by having working smoke alarms on every level of your home and working CO alarms outside all sleeping areas… if your home has any fuel burning appliances, a fireplace, or an attached garage,” fire officials say.

In the second incident, crews from Station #11 – Ridgetown responded to a fire at 11920 Front Line just before 6:30 a.m. on Thursday morning.

“The house was under construction… no injuries,” fire officials say.

Damages are estimated at $150,000, fire officials say, adding that the cause of the blaze is undetermined.
