‘Beach bus’ temporarily suspended in Chatham-Kent, due to Provincial stay-at-home order

The ‘beach bus’ transit service is being temporarily suspended in Chatham-Kent, due to the Provincial stay-at-home order.

“Please be advised that Public Transit Seasonal Route S1, known as the Beach Bus, will be suspended until further notice,” Municipal officials said in a media release.

“Route S1, providing service between Mitchell’s Bay and Erieau, was originally scheduled to begin service on Saturday, May 22. Due to the extension of the provincial stay-at-home order, this service will not commence until the provincial order has been lifted.”

The Municipality will update the public of any further changes to this service on their website at www.cktransit.ca.

Chatham-Kent officials also issued a reminder that the province-wide stay-at-home order has been extended until June 2, 2021.

“Under the order, this means you must stay at home,” Municipla officials said in a media release.

Municipal officials say you should only go out for necessities, such as:

– The grocery store or pharmacy

– Health care services (including going to medical appointments or getting vaccinated)

– Outdoor exercise or walking pets in your community

– Work that cannot be done remotely

– Child care or school

Read the regulations, here.

“In addition, you are not allowed to gather indoors or outdoors with anyone you do not live with, except one other person from outside of the household that lives alone,” Municipal officials say.

With regard to sports and recreation activities, Municipal officials say the following are allowed to be open, as long as two metres physical distancing can be maintained:

– Parks and recreational areas, including benches

– Playgrounds, play structures, and play equipment

– Off-leash dog parks

The following outdoor recreational amenities, outdoor sports facilities and multi-use fields must remain closed, including:

– Baseball diamonds

– Soccer fields

– Frisbee golf locations

– Tennis, platform tennis, table tennis and pickleball courts

– Basketball courts

– BMX parks

– Skate parks

– All portions of park and recreational areas containing outdoor fitness equipment

– All outdoor picnic sites and picnic tables in park and recreational areas

“Specifically, the municipality wants to highlight that the Provincial Government has ordered that the use of picnic tables in public spaces and those associated with restaurants / food services establishments are closed,” Municipal officials added.

“Restaurants in Ontario are currently restricted to take-out service only. The Municipality is responsible for enforcing the closures ordered by the provincial government. We look forward to reopening services as soon as we are permitted to do so by the Provincial Government.”
