Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Two individuals are facing multiple criminal charges following a break-in investigation at a hydro compound in Howard Township early Monday morning.
At approximately 2:11 a.m. on September 8, 2026, a Hydro One security employee spotted two suspects inside a secured hydro compound and contacted police. Responding officers established containment around the property and deployed a Chatham-Kent Police Service drone to help locate the suspects.
One suspect was located within the compound through the coordinated efforts of officers and the drone operator and was taken into custody without incident.
A second suspect fled into a nearby tree line and concealed his location, prompting police to call in the Chatham-Kent Police Service Canine Unit. Following a search of the area, a police service dog located the suspect hiding in the wooded area, leading to his arrest. A pickup truck believed to be associated with the incident was also found concealed behind vegetation near the scene.
A 38-year-old man and a 34-year-old man, both from Chatham-Kent, have each been charged with break and enter and commit mischief over $5,000, theft under $5,000, and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.
Both accused were held in custody pending a bail hearing.
The Chatham-Kent Police Service credited the coordinated response of patrol officers, drone operators and the Canine Unit for the successful apprehension of both suspects.
