Report of suspicious person leads to arrest
Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday morning, police responded to the report of a suspicious man in possession of a firearm riding a bicycle on the CP Railway tracks along Richmond Street in Chatham.
Officers located the man in possession of a firearm.
In an attempt to evade police, the man entered a bush along the tracks.
When the man exited, he was no longer in possession of the firearm.
Officers conducted a ground search and located a pellet gun close to where the man was found.
Through investigation, police learned that the man was also in possession of a stolen bicycle and that he was currently bound by conditions not to be in possession of a firearm or weapon.
The 39-year-old man of no fixed address was charged with being in possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of property obtained by a crime under $5,000, failing to comply with a Prohibition Order and failing to comply with his release conditions.
He was additionally charged with entering land on which a line work is situated, contrary to the Railway Safety Act.
He was held in custody pending a bail hearing and remanded until May 21, 2021.
Man unlawfully enters home in Wallaceburg
Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday morning, police responded to a domestic related incident at a residence in Wallaceburg.
Through investigation, police learned that the man entered his ex-girlfriend’s home and began removing items.
The 31-year-old Harwich Township man was arrested and charged with being unlawfully in a dwelling house.
He was released pending a future court date of June 23, 2021.
Youth charged with assault and mischief
Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Last night, police responded to a disturbance at a residence in Dover Township.
Through investigation, police learned that the youth threw a piece of metal at a person in the home, causing a laceration to his leg.
The youth also damaged several items throughout the home and broke a tail light of a vehicle parked outside.
The 15-year-old youth was arrested and charged with assault with a weapon and mischief under $5,000.
He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
Youth charged with taking motor vehicle without consent
Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday afternoon, police received information regarding a fail to remain collision in Chatham.
Through investigation, police learned that the youth had taken a truck from the home in Blenheim where he was staying without the owner’s consent.
The youth was involved in a collision on Richmond Street and returned the damaged vehicle to the registered owner a couple hours later.
The youth left the home prior to police arrival.
Last night, police located the youth in Erieau and he was taken into custody.
Upon being searched incident to arrest, he was found to be in possession of a knife, contrary to being on conditions not to possess any weapons.
The 16-year-old youth was charged with take motor vehicle without consent, failing to comply with his release conditions, failing to remain at the scene of a collision, careless driving and driving a motor vehicle without a license.
He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
Man charged with break and enter
Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Shortly after 1 a.m. this morning, police responded to the report of a break and enter in progress on McDougall Street in Wallaceburg.
Upon police arrival, officers observed the window to an ice cream stand was smashed and that a man wearing all dark clothing was inside.
The man was arrested and found to be in possession of a duffle bag with screwdrivers, scissors, metal file, hand saw and hacksaw blade.
The 41-year-old man of no fixed address has been charged with break and enter and possession of break-in instruments.
He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
Traffic enforcement
Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday morning, a member of the Traffic Unit observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed on Pain Court Line.
The officer recorded the man travelling 107 km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone.
A traffic stop was initiated and the 41-year-old Dover Township man was charged with speeding, operating a vehicle with no insurance, driving with no permit and failing to surrender his driver’s license.
He will be required to attend Provincial Offences Court on June 23, 2021.
His vehicle was towed from the scene.
