Man charged with impaired driving

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday morning, around 8:30 a.m. an officer on general patrol initiated a traffic stop on McFarlane Avenue in Chatham.

Through investigation, the officer believed the man was driving while under the influence of a drug and he was arrested.

The man was transported to police headquarters where a Drug Recognition Expert conducted an evaluation.

As a result, the DRE officer believed the man was impaired by a drug.

A 62-year-old man, of no fixed address, was charged with impaired driving, driving while under suspension, operating a motor vehicle with no insurance and failing to surrender a permit for a vehicle.

He was held in custody pending a bail hearing and remanded until June 9, 2021.

Men charged with assault

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Last month, police responded to a neighbour dispute in Chatham.

Through investigation, police learned that a verbal argument escalated into a physical altercation resulting in the victim being struck with a piece of wood.

Police identified the men involved and late yesterday afternoon, they were taken into custody.

A 37-year-old Chatham man was charged with assault with a weapon.

A 19-year-old Chatham man was charged with assault.

Both men were released pending a future court date of July 7, 2021.

Break and enter in Chatham

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Around 5:30 a.m. this morning, police responded to a break and enter at NAPA Auto Parts on Lacroix Street.

Through investigation, police learned that unknown suspects forced their way into the building, causing about $500 damage.

Once inside, the suspects stole black sunglasses, BOSE blue tooth speaker and Fitbit.

Motor vehicle collisions

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday morning, police responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Queen Street near Richmond Street in Chatham.

The woman lost control of her vehicle, while turning, and struck a pole.

The driver, a 72-year-old Blenheim woman, was transported to hospital as a precaution.

She was charged with careless driving.

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday afternoon, police responded to a two vehicle collision on Queens Line near Merlin Road.

Three people were transported to hospital as a precaution.

Total damage was estimated at $25,000.

A 24-year-old Windsor man was charged with failing to yield the right of way.
