Downtown Wallaceburg church door smashed, alleged suspect found swimming in the Sydenham

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Last night, just before 7 p.m. an observant citizen called police after witnessing the man damage the front door of a church on James Street in Wallaceburg.

Through investigation, police confirmed that the glass in the front door at St. James Anglican Church was shattered.

Total damage was estimated at $2,000.

Officers located the man responsible swimming in the Sydenham River.

The 43-year-old man, of no fixed address, was arrested and charged with mischief.

He was also arrested on an outstanding warrant.

He remains in police custody this morning.
