Dresden Shines focusing on inclusion and diversity with #wearecanada campaign

Dresden Shines will be lighting up Dresden in a contemplation of inclusion and diversity from June 18 through July 4.

#wearecanada is a recognition of the diverse and ever-changing fabric of our country, organizers say.

“Some horrific things have happened in the last month – from the discovery in Kamloops to the deaths in London – events that were rooted in people’s cultural identities,” Dresden Shines officials said in a media release.

“The Black Lives Matter movement has come to the forefront in North America and while our community is proud of its role in being a beacon for freed slaves, we recognize that the legacy of slavery remains to this day.”

Dresden Shines officials added: “We can all do better as Canadians in welcoming newcomers, supporting individuals and groups who have had a history of systemic discrimination, and committing to understanding and bridging our differences. We hope that by bringing awareness to and honouring our diversity we will have made a small impact on the road to inclusiveness and better understanding.”

Dresden Shines officials say as they strive for inclusion, #wearecanada will be highlighting diverse segments of society, with a particular emphasis on the multicultural make-up of Canada.
