Winston Allen ‘Win’ Soney, a member of Walpole Island First Nation, passed away suddenly at the CKHA-Chatham Campus on Tuesday, June 15, 2021 at the age of 56.
Winston is the son of Linda (Kiyoshk) and the late Ellwood Paul Soney.
Devoted husband of Misty Blackbird.
Father of Allen Soney-Greenbird, Winston Kechego and Steven Blackbird Soney.
Grandfather of Matthew Whitey Soney, Xavier Descon Soney, Jayden Knight, Kyla Deacon, Mason Soney, Zander Shipman and Llewella Deacon Soney.
Brother of Joyce (Stacey Goldrick), Judy (Tim Turner) and Cindy Soney.
Win enjoyed music and attended many concerts in Canada and the United States.
He shared his love of music with his children and took them to concerts when they were old enough to attend.
He also played guitar and was self-taught.
He had a great ear and could play a song on his guitar after listening to it over and over.
Winston was a sought-after duck guide because of his quick wit and sense of humour and it goes without saying is ability to ensure that the hunters came back with ducks.
He will be deeply missed by his friends, family and all who knew him.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the HAYCOCK-CAVANAGH FUNERAL HOME, 409 Nelson Street in Wallaceburg on Saturday from 2 – 4 PM and at the Walpole Island Sports Complex on Sunday from 11 – 3 PM.
Funeral service at the Walpole Island Sports Complex on Monday, June 21, 2021 at 1 PM with visiting starting at 12 noon.
Burial at Highbanks Cemetery, Walpole Island.
