Police: Youth charged with assaulting an officer, stolen truck

Youth charged with assault police

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Around 12:30 a.m. this morning, police responded to the downtown Chatham area in regards to youths throwing rocks at vehicles.

An officer on general patrol located four young people near the Downtown Chatham Centre.

Upon speaking with them, one of the youths became belligerent and lunged at the officer.

As the officer placed the youth under arrest, he assaulted the officer in an attempt to free himself.

As a second officer arrived, the youth tried to grab the officer’s firearm, which was still secured in the holster, and threatened to shoot them.

The youth was taken into custody, where he then provided a false name to police.

Through investigation, police identified the 17-year-old youth of no fixed address.

He was charged with assault police, disarming a police officer, uttering threats and obstruct police.

He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

An 18-year-old Chatham man was also arrested as he interfered with the arrest of the youth.

Upon being searched incident to arrest, the man was found to be in possession of a knife.

The man was charged with obstruct police and being in possession of a prohibited weapon.

He was released pending a future court date of July 28, 2021.

Man charged with failing to comply

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: On March 27, 2021 the man entered into a Probation Order with several conditions.

One of those conditions stated that he was not to contact or communicate with a specific Chatham woman.

On June 21, 2021 the man called the woman seven times.

On June 22, 2021 the man called and texted the woman.

Yesterday, police located the man and he was arrested.

The 25-year-old Chatham man has been charged with three counts of failing to comply with his probation order.

He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Stolen truck in Harwich Township

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Sometime late last night or early this morning, unknown suspects stole a yellow 2006 F-250 diesel pick-up truck from a residence on Huffman Road.

The truck was last seen with Ontario license plates 504 8FP.
