Special weather statement issued, heavy rain expected

A special weather statement has been issued across Chatham-Kent, as rain at times heavy is expected today and tonight.

Forecasters say rainfall, with localized amounts reaching 40 to 60 mm, are expected across portions of southwestern Ontario from today into Saturday.

“An area of showers or thunderstorms will enter the region this morning and last through Saturday morning or afternoon,” Environment Canada officials say.

“Plenty of moisture in the atmosphere will allow rain to fall heavy at times and amounts exceeding 60 mm may be possible in areas that receive several thunderstorms.”

For information concerning flooding, please consult your local Conservation Authority or Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry District office, foecasters say.
