Very warm and humid conditions lead to special weather statement being issued

A special weather statement has been issued in Chatham-Kent, as very warm and humid conditions are expected today into Tuesday.

“Humidex values in the upper thirties to near forty are likely today and may occur Tuesday afternoon, with little relief from the heat overnight,” Environment Canada officials say.

“It will be cooler near some lakeshore areas.”

These conditions pose a health risk when you are not used to the heat, forecasters added.

“Everyone is at risk from heat, especially older adults; infants and young children; and people with chronic illnesses,” Environment Canada officials say.

“You are advised to 1) drink plenty of cool liquids before feeling thirsty; and 2) keep cool by dressing for the weather and spending a few hours each day in a cool place.”

Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada.
