Weapons complaint on Walpole Island

Lambton OPP officials allege: On June 29, 2021 at 8:15 p.m., members of Walpole Island Police Service and Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to the report of a weapons complaint in the area of Squirrel Island Road.

Police, including members of the OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU), OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT), OPP Canine Unit and OPP Crisis Negotiators responded to the area and subsequently took an individual into custody without incident.

No injuries have been reported.

A 29-year-old Walpole Island First Nation man has been charged with the following offences;

– Pointing a firearm,

– Possession of a weapon for Dangerous Purpose,

– Unauthorized possession of a firearm (three counts),

– Assault with a weapon, and

– Discharge firearm with intent.

The accused in this matter is being held in custody pending a bail hearing and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice located in Sarnia.
