Voices in the Wind Audio Theatre releases new audio book

Voices in the Wind Audio Theatre has announced its audiobook release of Emily of New Moon, narrated by Canadian-American actress Megan Follows.

The title was set to be released globally on Audible – June 22, 2021.

“We are very excited to launch this production with such a world-class talent as Megan,” says David Farquhar, Executive Producer of Voices in the Wind Audio Theatre, in a press release.

“She was the absolute perfect fit to narrate ‘Emily’ along with the iconic storytelling of Lucy Maud Montgomery. Navigating the challenges of completing this production during a global pandemic was a monumental accomplishment. And that commitment shows in the final product. I believe Megan’s performance will ensure that our audiobook release of Emily of New Moon will be something families can enjoy for generations to come.”

“I was thrilled to be part of this timeless production,” Follows said, in a media release.

“It was wonderful to return to another of Lucy Maud Montgomery’s classics that are beloved around the world.”

Lucy Maud Montgomery, the Canadian author of the popular Anne of Green Gables series, introduces us to an endearing new heroine in Emily of New Moon.

Like Anne Shirley, Emily Starr is a quick-witted and imaginative orphan who is sent to live with her two maiden aunts at New Moon Farm after her father dies.

Though initially disheartened by her strict and conventional Aunt Elizabeth, Emily slowly grows to love her new family and New Moon Farm.

Montgomery considered Emily to be a character much closer to her personality than Anne, and some of the events which occur in the Emily series happened to Montgomery herself.

Emily is described as having black hair, purply violet eyes, elfin ears, pale skin, and a unique and enchanting “slow” smile.

In 2019, BBC Arts listed Emily of New Moon on its list of 100 Most Influential Novels.

Emily of New Moon was adapted for audio by Dave Carley and Beverley Cooper of Toronto, directed by Amy Rubinate of Los Angeles, produced by David Farquhar of Chatham, and recorded at Pirate in Toronto.

Follows is a Canadian actress and director whose career has spanned the stage, TV, and film.

She played Anne Shirley in the 1985 top-rated CBC-TV miniseries Anne of Green Gables (as well as its two sequels).

The miniseries became successful around the world and remained to this day the highest-rated drama in Canadian television history.

Megan earned two Gemini awards as best actress for the first two miniseries, Anne of Green Gables and Anne of Green Gables: The Sequel, and a Gemini nomination for the third Anne installment, Anne of Green Gables: The Continuing Story.
