A cemetery road improvements contract was approved by Municipality of Chatham-Kent Council on Monday night, July 12, 2021 for Riverview Cemetery in Wallaceburg.
A tender, in the amount of $348,529.06, was awarded to Elric Contractors Ltd. of Wallaceburg.
“The 2021 cemetery road improvements contract consists of full depth asphalt restoration and road base work for Riverview Cemetery located in the community of Wallaceburg,” said Brendan Falkner, manager of engineering, in a report.
“These sections of cemetery roads were selected in consultation with cemetery operations based on their overall condition, public usage, and the extent of repairs required.”
Thomas Kelly, general manager for infrastructure and engineering services, said the work will be completed by October 31, 2021.
Kelly added staff and the contractor will work to ensure any disruptions at the cemetery, specifically when ceremonies or internments are taking place, are limited during the construction period.
“We’re looking forward to (the work being completed)… it has been a long time coming and well overdue,” Kelly said.
