35-40 acres of wheat destroyed by fire

Firefighters responded to a fire in a wheat field in rural Chatham-Kent on Thursday afternoon.

“Crews from Station #16 attended a wheat field fire at 7128 Thirteenth Line (on Thursday) afternoon with assistance from Stations 15 & 17,” fire officials said in a media release.

“The farmer was taking the wheat off when the fire was noticed. Wind conditions made extinguishing the fire difficult.”

Fire officials added: “Approximately 35-40 acres of standing wheat was lost in the fire. No damage to any farm equipment or buildings.”
